Harmonica De Cantabile 2010 @ Esplanade Concert Hall

Yuhua Harmonica Band has once again pull off yet another successful concert,
Harmonica De Cantabile 2010, held at the Esplanade Concert Hall last year. This is not an ordinary concert you have seen elsewhere, but a joint concert performance by 8 various schools namely, Yuhua Harmonica Band, NJC Harmonica Band, Anglican High School Harmonica Orchestra, VJC Harmonica Band and many more!

Construction Notes - Archiving Problem

If you have been trying to see the links, you will get a "Blogger: Page not found" error. Apparently i believe the problem might be with blogger's archiving function.

We are trying to work and resolve this linkage issue, so do check back here when its all ready.

Edit: Apparently the problem does lies with Archiving Function. In the dashboard -> Archive there is an option which enables you to create individual address with each posts which allowed us to create individual pages using functions of bloggers and linking it seamlessly.

Revival of YHHB Blog

It would seem that this space was magically revived during the CCA Open House, however the truth is far from fantasy. With more volunteers helping out to maintain content and space, I believe as a community we will continue to grow together in time to come.

I want to take this opportunity to thank a few people for taking the time out to help out at this blogging space and made this communication tool from happening.

1. Sylvia Tan Yan Qi: For coming up with the template 1 to 2 years ago and came up with a really nice banner on the top as you can see. She did the ground work on the template and visuals from scratch and without her efforts and input this blog would never have come to fruition.

2. Ong Kailing: For un-grudgingly helping out with tweaking the pictures for blog post despite her busy schedule. Without her mad photo shopping skills, the pictures on the posts will never look neater or alive. Recently, she did the groundwork for our CCA Open House posters and I am thankful for that nevertheless.

3. Chew Tze Hwa: For having a unique perspective in terms of the social media and having the technical Midas touch on the finishing touches of the various media projects which we had for the past few years. Some of you would probably have known that he worked on several video projects for us and have always come up with a high quality production. With his finishing touches, he have helped to finish up this blog site and transform it into a functional site.

CCA Openhouse 2011

Dear fellow juniors and alumnus,

The school will be running CCA Open House 2011 this coming Saturday. We will most likely be getting ready around 9.00 AM, if you are keen on visiting, please let me have your full name on your NRIC so that i can submit it to the school under a common list.

Some thing to note with regards to the attire. Please note to be dressed in proper attire for CCA Open House where the proper attire would be defined to be in jeans and t-shirt which applies to all the ladies and gentleman. As an alumnus of the school, let us all project a good image for the school to the students and parents who will be visiting today as well.

Graduation 2010 !

We have just concluded our annual camp on the 29th of December 2010. Where we saw another batch of students have graduated and join the ranks as Harmonica Alumni. As I was watching the video in the harmonica band room, a sense of pride welled up within me. No matter how emotionally difficult 2010 was, still it is immeasurable how it feels to watch the video and see how it affects them as much as it affected me.

Friendship that comes in all sorts of shapes, sizes and ages. That is what defines us. We may have our differences, but what is common between all of us will be as members of YHHB, the tough times spent together that defines all of us forever. The tough times spent laughing and crying together, towards a common objective.

Kudos to Jason Chew Tze Hwa for spending uncountable man hours just to work on his best production always. The makings of an excellent producer. At the very last minute he was still rendering the video and faced with plenty of errors, he managed to will the computer to do his bidding and came out with an excellent video production. Gathering & Appreciation [25th September 2010]

Thank you for your favorable response attending this event honoring Mdm Peng 26 years at Yuhua Secondary School Harmonica Band. The main objective of the whole event is basically just an opportunity for us to gather together and catch up while we spend some time with Mdm. Peng catching up with her as well.

Note: I suggest those who wants to catch her a little bit earlier is welcomed to do so, as we will be having our last and final practice on the actual day itself, you might want to make an appointment with Mdm. Peng to catch up with her before the "formal" event

As there will be some simple refreshments provided at the end of the event while we spend the rest of the late afternoon catching up at school, there would be a simple cost of $8.00 per person which i would appreciate if it would be passed on during reception to the alumni manning the counter.

There will be a professional photographer with credits to Mr. Derrick Ang for engaging the photographer who will be taking pictures during the event. You are welcomed to have your own point and shoot cameras and take pictures and catch up on old times while you are at it.

These are some specific details which you need to know and prepare prior to the event.

2. Other Matters - 22nd DEC 2010 Concert Tickets

As we will be having a concert on the 22nd of December 2010 please let us know of your intention to attend the concert and order your tickets with us on the actual day as well. I strongly recommend that you order and buy your tickets with us directly on the actual day so that we can block book the seats together and have everyone seated close to each other.

Currently we are left with the $25/$20 dollars tickets, so don't procrastinate. Start buying already :)

Banner Update + Ideas

I like the Concept of the banner, very artistic and clean and has a representative view of the things in YHHB. Targeting to "release" news of the website post camp, where we can post up pictures and links to the videos.

We can try a few more variations of the banner.

1. Fully Extended View

Extend left and right div with 2 x 3 more rows of Mid Sized Pictures instead of the smallest sized pictures. Meaning to say it will be a equal sized one with the centrepiece.

2. Two more vertical left and right centerpieces.

That might take out the focus of the centrepiece in the middle, if its possible lets see how it looks like.

I need to get a few more pictures to sylvia for more choice of pictures.

3. Picture Stamp

We may need a standard watermark stamp on all our future pictures we post up.

4. School Logo and Band Logo

We could insert mini picture of our logo into the montage. And perhaps our School logo too.

5. Alignment Issue

I'm not sure if it is browser/resolution specific but it could use a little bit shifting towards the left.

6. Add Alumni Link On Top of First High under sections

7. Feedback Form (something Sam will look into)

Welcome. To Yuhua Harmonica Band.

Established since 1986, the Yuhua Harmonica Band is a close-knitted organization with strong ties between teachers, students and alumnus, its main objective is in promoting and cultivating interest in the harmonica to the masses through concerts and public performances show casing the unique features of the harmonica.

Mr. Tang Yuen Wai, our principal conductor, is in charge of the Yuhua Harmonica Band's musical and art direction and he has been with us since 2003, under his baton, the band have made significant progress every since. Mr. Tang himself is a renowned and excellent harmonicist who is able to play the chromatic and the tremelo harmonica with ease. He is widely recognized by the local and international harmonica fraternity to be an excellent harmonicist with a very wide variety of talent on various instruments which have helped him build up various harmonica bands in schools of Singapore.

Members will be taught by experience instructors and seniors on how to play the harmonica on a basic level. The beginning process will take up about 4 to 5 months, after which, they will be streamlined into various sections to make up the parts in an orchestra. These sections include:

1. 1st Chromatic Harmonica
2. 2nd Chromatic Harmonica
3. Tenor Harmonica
4. Octave Harmonica
5. Bass Harmonica
6. Horn Harmonica
7. Chord Harmonica
8. Double Bass Strings
9 Percussion Section

A section by itself will not be able to make any music, however together, wonderful music can be made together.

Besides taking part in competitions, practices and performing at concerts, students will also have ample opportunities in taking part in exchanges ideas and appreciation of the harmonica frequently between different schools, appreciating music through musical concerts. There will also be opportunities to take part in international competition like the Asia Pacific Harmonica Festival recently concluded in Singapore last year 2010.

As a harmonica band member, it is quite possible to obtain a favorable grade with the CCA Points system, based on the amount of activities the band participates every year. With the CCA Point Gradining System, students will be able to use the points during JAE process every year to reduce the barrier in points towards a preferred course in polytechnics.
